ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

ਮਿਰਤੁ ਹਸੈ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰੇ ਪਸੂਆ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ ਬਾਦ ਸਾਦ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਮਰਣਾ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੧॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਆਪਨਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਹੁ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਭੂਲਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਪ ਦਰਬੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਰਤਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥ ਮਾਟੀ ਸਿਉ ਮਾਟੀ ਰਲੀ ਨਾਗਾ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੀਐ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਰੈ ਤੇ ਬੈਰ ਬਿਰੋਧੀ ॥ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਭਜਿ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਲਹੁ ਕਰੋਧੀ ॥੩॥ ਦਾਸ ਰੇਣੁ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮਾ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੁਟੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੩੬॥

English Translation

BILAAVAL, FIFTH MEHL:

Death hovers over his head, laughing, but the beast does not understand. Entangled in conflict, pleasure and egotism, he does not even think of death. || 1 || So serve your True Guru; why wander around miserable and unfortunate? You gaze upon the transitory, beautiful safflower, but why do you get attached to it? || 1 || Pause || You commit sins again and again, to gather wealth to spend. But your dust shall mix with dust; you shall arise and depart naked. || 2 || Those for whom you work, will become your spiteful enemies. In the end, they will run away from you; why do you burn for them in anger? || 3 || He alone becomes the dust of the Lord’s slaves, who has such good karma upon his forehead. Says Nanak, he is released from bondage, in the Sanctuary of the True Guru. || 4 || 6 || 36 ||

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੌਤ (ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ (ਖਲੋਤੀ) ਹੱਸ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਚੇਤਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਪਰ) ਪਸ਼ੂ (-ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ । ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਸੁੱਝਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ।੧।ਹੇ ਬਦ-ਕਿਸਮਤ! ਕਿਉਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ । ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ (ਮਨ-ਮੋਹਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ? ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ) ਪਾਪ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਰਤਣ ਲਈ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, (ਪਰ ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਰਲ ਗਈ, ਤੇ, ਜੀਵ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ-ਹੱਥ ਹੀ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ ।੨।ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਮੇਹਨਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਤੋੜ ਤਕ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਬਾਹ ਸਕਦੇ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ) ਵੈਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੀ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਸਹੇੜ ਸਹੇੜ ਕੇ) ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣਗੇ ।੩।ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੬।੩੬।

ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਘਰੁ ੧ ਚਉਪਦੇ

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥ ਹਮ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਖੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਜੁ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥ ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਥਰ ਨੀਰਿ ਡੁਬਤ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਖਣ ਹਮ ਤਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਮੋਰਚਾ ਲਗਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰਿ ਤਾਇਓ ਮਲੁ ਕਾਟੀ ਕਟਿਤ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨੁ ਜਪਉ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਜਗਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੩॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਾਰੀ ॥ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥

English Translation

DHANAASAREE, FOURTH MEHL, FIRST HOUSE, CHAU-PADAS:

Those Saints and devotees who serve the Lord have all their sins washed away. Have Mercy on me, O Lord and Master, and keep me in the Sangat, the Congregation that You love. || 1 || I cannot even speak the Praises of the Lord, the Gardener of the world. We are sinners, sinking like stones in water; grant Your Grace, and carry us stones across. || Pause || The rust of poison and corruption from countless incarnations sticks to us; joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, it is cleaned away. It is just like gold, which is heated in the fire, to remove the impurities from it. || 2 || I chant the chant of the Name of the Lord, day and night; I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, and enshrine it within my heart. The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, is the most perfect medicine in this world; chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, I have conquered my ego. || 3 || The Lord, Har, Har, is unapproachable, of unfathomable wisdom, unlimited, all-powerful and infinite. Show Mercy to Your humble servant, O Life of the world, and save the honor of servant Nanak. || 4 || 1 ||

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ (Punjabi Explanation)

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਸੰਤ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ (ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ । ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਸ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ । ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਪੀ ਹਾਂ, ਪਾਪਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ (ਪੱਥਰ-ਦਿਲਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਤਪਾਇਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਕੱਟੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੰਗਾਲ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸੋਧਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤਾਂਹੀਏਂ) ਮੈਂ (ਭੀ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਐਸੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਸਰ ਕਰਨੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੁੰਝਦੀ । ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਕਾ ਸਕੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ! ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ! ਹੇ ਪਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤੇ, (ਇਸ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਭਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ ਰੱਖ ਲੈ ।੪।੧।
